Installing Video Surveillance Security Systems
Most people agree that they are more concerned today with their home and loved ones security than ever before. Many people are taking steps to gain peace of mind and feel safer about their homes by installing digital video surveillance systems.
There is a lot of video camera surveillance system on the market, so which one should you choose? Choosing a system will require some prior planning before making a purchase. First you will need to decide what areas you want to monitor. Where do you need the cameras for monitoring? Do you only want to monitor one room? (Such as your child’s room). Or will you be monitoring a larger area such as entry ways and valuables?
A very important place to install a visible camera is at the outside entrances to your home. The reason a visible camera is recommended is due to the fact that sometimes burglars are deterred simply by seeing the surveillance cameras. You ca evev install fake security cameras. Inside your home you may want cameras to be less noticeable. When possible outside cameras should be mounted in hard to reach areas (so they cannot be vandalized or tampered with). Outside cameras should always be protected from the elements by a weather proof outer casing.
You will also need to decide how you will be recording with digital video surveillance systems. Will you be utilizing your computer or a separate component such as a DVR? You may not want to continuously record your surveillance. Video surveillance security systems are available with a feature that will only record when a motion sensor indicates activity. When the motion sensor is activated it will initiate the recording device and continue to record for a specified amount of time (or until the activity stops). This will greatly reduce the amount of data recorded. You can easily accumulate a ton of recorded data if you are recording all the time. A motion sensor recording feature can be worth the investment.
A big decision you will need to make is whether or not to attempt installation of digital video surveillance systems yourself or leave it to a professional? While many systems include instructions for installation, there are a lot of places where things can go wrong. If the entire system is not connected properly, it will not work. Each component must be installed, wired and programmed correctly. If you do not have any prior experience trouble shooting electrical issues, you may want to consider professional installation.
What your budget is for purchasing your security system will be a big factor. You owe it to yourself to do some comparison shopping before you buy. There are many wholesale dealers who are able to offer great savings because they buy the systems in large quantities. Be sure to check that there are in depth installation instructions from the manufacturer if you will be tackling putting the system in your home yourself.
Digital video surveillance systems can give you added security and possibly deter intruders from entering your home. They also can allow you to monitor your home form a remote location. This may be of benefit to you if you have pets or children you would like to keep an eye on or if you just want to monitor your home while you are away. Some insurance companies offer a discount on homeowners insurance if you have security system as well.
