Home Surveillance Systems Become Budget Friendly
Home surveillance systems have long been thought to be necessary item for the rich and famous. Previously those who wanted to install a home surveillance system needed to be prepared to spend several thousand dollars for equipment installation and then hire someone to monitor cameras for security or hire an outsourced company to do the monitoring and notify a homeowner of any problems with the home surveillance systems.
Innovative digital and communication technology has led to easier and easier to use equipment. Rapid technological advancement has also made cheap home security cameras available in the home improvement market. Personal computers and digital video surveillance systems have put home security into the hands of the consumer directly.
The demand for home surveillance systems has skyrocketed as well. Homeowners, who had never thought about purchasing security systems, are deciding that they are a wise investment now. This is occurring for a variety of reasons.
Some of these include:
Crime rates continue to be present (and often rising) in most communities across the country. Theft and home burglary account for many of these crimes. No longer are expensive homes in rich neighborhoods the exclusive targets of thieves, but rather moderate and low income homes having fallen prey. Large scale economic recession may have made theft more prevalent as well.
Home invasions with the homeowner present are occurring every day. Homeowners are harmed and sometimes killed by the intruders. To increase their safety level at home, homeowners install home surveillance systems.
A reason gaining popularity is having a surveillance system installed to monitor pets while the owner is away.
Homeowners also monitor their household staff, contractors, child and elderly care providers. This use has had benefits and drawbacks. Abusive caregivers have been caught in the act; as well as theft by employees. However, wireless surveillance camera systems have led to monitoring people without their knowledge, which has raised legality problems with privacy issues. As technology allows more and better surveillance, privacy invasion will probably remain an issue.
For the homeowner who has a computer, adding cheap home security cameras to monitor the areas (in or out of the home) is relatively simple. Cameras are available that will require you to run cable, which are more time consuming to install but are usually cheaper.
Wireless models of video camera allow you to place cameras within a set distance and feed the video into a TV or home computer. You can even monitor your property from work or any other location where internet is available. Not all models have these capabilities and features such as increased wireless reception (distance camera will still transmit to receiver such as TV or PC) will increase the price.
Most home surveillance systems will be dependent on having software installed onto your computer if you will be utilizing it for your system. Other systems can be purchase as a kit and may include the video monitor. There are companies who will monitor your camera video for you, and then will contact you if there is a problem. These companies sometimes include a free installation and equipment; but you will have to subscribe (and pay a monthly fee) for their services. Surveillance systems give average homeowners the opportunity to protect their homes, belongings and cherished pets or loved ones.
